    Hi,

    A 'Still' is used for distilling so he could have been in the brewing/distilling trade. Or a 'Still Room' was a Pantry or storeroom in a large house. They also have 'Still Rooms' in our hospitals for storing items.


    Guess it depends on where he was living and what the surrounding industries were at the time.

      The 123 looks like 12,3 possibly a code added by enumerator later to denote which industry
      Judith passed away in October 2018

            Val, was your man from Cheshire? In the birthplace codes list, 123 is for Stockport.

            Just to be clear, the codes list I posted is for 1911, which census year is your image from?
