I am researching the life of Friedrich Wilhelm, Duke of Brunswick, the "Black Duke", who was killed at Quatre Bras in 1815.
From 1814 to 1816, an English Lady, Charlotte Louisa Berry, followed him to Brunswick together with her sister, Mrs. Monk. Her details are in the dark exept:
She received an annual pension from Brunswick (1200,- Taler, i.e. 100 Pounds). In 1819, she married Abel Clifton - in the records, she is a widow - which seemed to be a marriage of convenience, according to the censuses, she is not living with him. in 1825, she still resided in London, she moved at an unknown time to Paris, where she passed away July, 05th 1866. Her granddaughter, Mary Theresa Berry, lived at that time at Earls Terrace, Kensington and informed the Duke of Brunswick about her death.
Charlotte had a brother and a least a son, both name unknown. The son is likely to be born in 1814/1815.
I would appreciate any information which could be provided from any member
