Hello
My grandfather was William H. Bond born 1861 from Alverstoke, Hampshire, England. On his marriage licence of 1900. He said he was widowed. Could you find information for his first marriage,

there is a William Henry Bond marrying in 1905 at Alverstoke
spouse either Elizabeth Phillips or Eleanor Blythe

only other marriage in Alverstoke I can see is 1923 of a William Bond to a Mary Amos.

I had been looking at that one as a possible Vera and couldn't understand why I couldn't find a marriage in either UK or Scotland records. I can't find a death for Helen Bond of the right age in either England or Scotland between 1891 and 1900.
I wonder why he only uses the William too and not the Henry.

This is a possible death for Helen, Chrissie. It is an Ellen Bond b abt 1862 died 1898 Lancaster

http://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/sse.dll?_phsrc=Snn567&_phstart=successSource&usePUBJs=true&indiv=1&db=freebmddeath&gss=angs-d&new=1&rank=1&msT=1&gsfn=ellen&gsfn_x=0&gsln=bond&gsln_x=0&msbdy=1862&msbpn__ftp=Scotland&msbpn=3252&msbpn_PInfo=3-%7C0%7C0%7C3257%7C3252%7C0%7C0%7C0%7C0%7C0%7C0%7C&msddy=1898&msdpn__ftp=Lancaster,%20Lancashire,%20England&msdpn=84902&msdpn_PInfo=8-%7C0%7C0%7C3257%7C3251%7C0%7C0%7C0%7C5271%7C84902% 7C0%7C&_83004003-n_xcl=m&cpxt=1&cp=11&MSAV=1&uidh=326&pcat=BMD_DEATH&fh=0&h=3331616&recoff=&ml_rpos=1

On William's service records he discharged himself in 1894 with a forwarding address for Preston, Lancs. I do believe that William moved on to become an attendant in the Lancs County Asylum. A 1901 Census has a William with Edith M in Lancs.

There is also a Canadian Army record linking William to the 2nd Batt E Yorks Rgt.

I have not seen the William H used in any of the records I have found so we need Montgomery's confirmation that we are on the right track.

Hello Vera
The information you have is all correct. He married my grandmother Edith Mary Haldon in 1900. He did move on to become Head attendant to Royal Albert Asylum.
Then moved to Canada in 1911. If you can find more information about Ellen Bond b 1862. This probably his first wife. Do you have any information if he had children from his first wife. Any information about his father Samuel Bond he was death when William remarried in 1900. Samuel was a sailor.

Hello Montgomery

That's good we are on the right track

He married Helen (Ellen) in 1888 and there are no children recorded on the 1891 census when he was back from India and in barracks in Nether Hallam (Post 14)

I would have thought that if there had been children between 1891 and 1900, they would have been with him in the 1901 Census with Edith M but non recorded. However, that is not to say they weren't any and that they were being cared for by family members of Helen (Elllen)

I will look to see what else can be found for Helen Brock and William's father Samuel. The 1871 census (post 15) is I think a good possibility for William H's family and there are links to names of nok on Army records and those of family members shown on census forms.

This is the only Helen Brock born c1862 with a father William I can find in Scotland in 1871 - William is a coachman -
http://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/sse.dll?db=1871Scotland&indiv=try&h=1645615

William and his wife Mary both born England, the children born Monimail, Fifeshire. The daughter Mary Jane Brock's baptism gives birth as 23rd August 1860, and parents as William Brock and Mary Staleton.
I can't find a marriage in Scotland for them but there is a possible marriage in June 1860 Holbeach ref 7a 631 - as well as William Brock and Mary Stapleton the others on the page are Betsy Chamberlain and Henry Hammond.

Can you tell me please Montogomery, which documents told you that William Bond was actually William H Bond? Was it the children's births or something as he seems to have married both times as just William.
p.s. I see now that in 1901 he is William H Bond.

This could be the marriage Chrissie put up.

23rd April 1860

St Mary's, Long Sutton, Lincs

Mary Stapleton father John
William Brock father George

Links with the names of the sons seen on the census records for William and Mary. Pity there wasn't an occupation for father on marriage record

Hello Montgomery

Please ignore above post (24) posted in error

I was looking at the family in Post 15 (1871 census) as a possible for your William H b 1861

This is I think is the same family in 1861. It is mistranscribed as Band on Ancestry with age for Samuel being 69 but looks more like 60 to me.

http://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/sse.dll?_phsrc=Snn1114&_phstart=successSource&usePUBJs=true&indiv=1&db=uki1861&gss=angs-d&new=1&rank=1&gsfn=samuel&gsfn_x=0&gsln=band&gsln_x=0&msbdy=1791&msbpn__ftp=Plymouth,%20Devon,%20England&msbpn=83196&msbpn_PInfo=8-%7C0%7C0%7C3257%7C3251%7C0%7C0%7C0%7C5261%7C83196% 7C0%7C&msrpn__ftp=Alverstoke,%20Hampshire,%20England&msrpn=83968&msrpn_PInfo=8-%7C0%7C0%7C3257%7C3251%7C0%7C0%7C0%7C5266%7C83968% 7C0%7C&_83004003-n_xcl=f&MSAV=1&uidh=326&pcat=CEN_1860&fh=0&h=7898154&recoff=&ml_rpos=1

Samuel Band aged 69/60 Born Plymouth Bricklayer's labourer
Mary 36 wife born Gosport, Hants

Sarah 13 dau born " "
John 8 son born " "
Mary 5 dau born " "
William 4 months " "

living ? Chapel Street Alverstoke

On William H's Army record he gives initially next of kin as Mother, Mary and a Sarah. Later nok recorded as Helen (Brock)

In the 1871 census Samuel is still alive but as William H signed up in the early 1870's it could be that Samuel had died by then although mother Mary from this family was alive in 1891 and widowed.

In 1851 the family I think possibly to be William H's are living in Alverstoke

Samuel aged 52 b Plymouth, Devon a Greenwich Pensioner
Mary aged 26 wife b Gosport, Hants

Samuel aged 7 son b Gosport, Hants
Sarah aged 3 dau b " "

living ?? Alley, Alverstoke, Hants
