  • A bit of a long shot ...

I found this burial on familysearch yesterday and I'm hoping someone may be able to find when this child was born/baptised and hopefully who his mother was (As his father's name is listed, I'm assuming he was quite young when he died)

Joseph Kilby, male, buried 4th Sept 1849 Humberstone, Leicester
    father: Jos. Kilby

The "rule" with FamilySearch transcriptions is that if in the age column it says "infant", you're told to leave the age blank - because infant can [apparently] mean anything from a few days to several years.

Always looking for Goodwins in Berkshire.

thanks for the explanation STG ... the transcription didn't include an age, so presume baby as father's name was included ???

this also applies to a child under one, [you are supposed to put 0] on some transcribing forms. [each image that you transcribe in a particular 'set' has it's own rules about transcribing]

There is a later burial 1854 Humberstone for a Joseph Kilby with a piece in the paper about his estate and a Charles Kilby mentioned. Had a look at St Mary Humberstone and there are a few Kilby baptisms, wondered if this was the chap who died , just a wild guess

            KILBY JOSEPH 1806 JOSEPH & MARY 25-May

thanks Elaine ... I can now discount that one.

I thought it may have been a baby's burial ~ still trying to ascertain when and where Joseph and Jane married!
