bottom line on Laptop not responding / connecting ?

Good Morning
my laptop is playing up -
the bottom section about 15mm deep has the windows in the bottom left hand corner - Firefox in the centre and Google Chrome in the centre .....when I try to click on any of these 3 I get no response ??
I cannot get my Yahoo.com e mails on Google - only on Firefox ...
I even thought of taking the Laptop back a week on System Restore - but I can't even do that as I can't open up the Control Panel because when I click on the Windows logo nothing happens ????
any advice greatly appreciated ...

Hi Garstonite, have you tried turning off the power and remove the Battery, leave for a few minutes and then replace battery and restart the computer, this will fix a lot of problems like freezing, worth a try.Robert

This was shown to me by a HP expert four years ago when I had a problem on my laptop just after I bought it and passed it on here, it probably has saved lots of people money from having to take back to the store or repairer, I pass it on to all my friends. Static in the start button he called it.
