    ancestry gloucester baptisms marriages and burals:

    15 oct 1739 dursley, gloucester. thomas chappell and rebecca tyrell ? nupt (nuptials). can anyone see what the word between tyrell and nupt is please?

        i thought it said foreigners. does this just mean they weren't of the parish?

          Means they were from outside the parish. Another term often used was "sojourner" which meant someone passing through the parish on the way to somewhere else! But Foreigner is not the same as Sojourner.

            I've seen 'strangers' which I took to mean from outside the parish and more fits in with a similar meaning to foreigners.
