    In the above image, on the left hand side, 2nd from bottom is the baptism of Virginia Turner in Madras, India. Can anyone make out the two words entered after.....Mary Ann his wife. I think they may refer to Mary Ann's ethnicity. Their other daughter, who married when she was 15 was described as "East Indian".

    PS have now found Virginia's marriage where she is described as Indo Briton, which this could be. Does that mean the mother as well as the children were from mixed marriages?

    Yes that is what I got too.

    Indo Briton is probably what we now call Anglo Indian where one of the parents is British and the other Indian or Anglo Indian. Anglo Indians were perceived in India's class system as being quite high ranking at the time of the Raj.
