  • Fascinating Family Story from Killymard, Donegal

A cousin clued me in a while ago to information about Killymard, Donegal. There are census records that survived in a minister's house. They were transcribed in a book, described here (bottom half of page):

and much has been transcribed here:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb....lymardproj.htm (go to the individual censuses and click).

I was able to obtain a copy of the book. In the 1851 census, the Ritchie family is described (BTW, notes were also added, so this is more than just the census record)

Ritchie. John 38 Ann Mackey 37 married 1831 Fanny 18 Hugh 16 [died] Tom 13 [Hugh's father] Margaret 11 Jane 8 [married Ken, died in Glasgow] Ann died 1843 aged 80. Margaret married Adam Mackie. +Died on day of her husband's funeral. John died on day of wife's funeral. Charles murdered for his master. Buried in Convoy, near Whiterock. His ghost appeared to Mary Anne on the same day. Tom and John Ritchie are brothers.

Wow. Don't you wish you could have that kind of information for your missing tree members?
