Could anyone find me anything regarding an (name removed) he is my friend's biological father he was born c 1917 and my friend was born 1943 in Cornwall.

Mother and Father never married...and Mother never saw him again after she got pregnant although he never knew she WAS pregnant.

She has all her adoption papers and the name is mentioned lots of times.

He was in the RAF in Plymouth at the time

    Thanks very much

Sorry Linda, have edited the post. I realise the chances that he is still alive are slim, but we do have to follow our guidelines re possible living people.
If anyone thinks they can help then by all means share the info via PM.

I have just done a couple of this type of case with WW2 service fathers - both successfully, and one of which may feature in the new series of Family finders. The key is to go back to genealogy basics and put together a full extended family tree for the person you want to know about. Look to see if they later married and had children, remembering that they may have divorced and remarried but also look at their brothers/sisters and trace their families forward as well. The lack of recent records (apart from the 1939 register) makes it more difficult and a lot depends on how unusual the name is, but it can be done. You just need to find one living person who can fill in all the missing pieces.

You have to consider VERY carefully the implications of making any contact with a family who will have no idea that your friend exists, and also the legal issues around contacting birth families of adopted persons.

        Hi Anthony,

I would leave that to my friend. She has already told me that she doesn't want to contact him or any family he has just wants to see WHO he is and what happened to him after she was born.

I can't find any reference to him at all and it's a fairly unusual name, not the sort of one you would pluck out of thin air if you wanted to lie about it.

Would be very grateful if anyone could have a look for me.

        Thanks

        Linda

In my experience (which is quite wide!) people start by saying they have no intention of contacting living people...and finish up banging on their front doors. That is not your problem of course but you might want to consider that as you search and thus choose your moment to pull out of the search if it looks like going that way.

I agree wholeheartedly with what Antony says. We have seen on this forum the disastrous results of contacting a member of the birth family - and that was done by so-called professionals!

By all means help your friend with the background search but if it were me, I'd drag my feet at looking for any living relatives.

              Hi OC,

I know 100% she would not contact living relatives, she knows she has a half sister from her Mum's later marriage and even knows where she lives but says the past is the past.

She would just like to see what happened to her Dad.

              Understandable

I've just realised my post above might look like I was referring to Antony when I said "so-called professionals". Just to make it crystal clear - I wasn't referring to Antony!

I was referring to one specific agency which specialises in Adoption research and reunion.
