I am hoping that someone may be able to sharpen up this image of a headstone to enable us to decipher more of the text.

Many Thanks, Helen

I don't think it will be easy to sharpen, Helen, but if you click on the magnifying glass on Photobucket you can enlarge it.

So far I have:

" HERE RESTS IN GOD
ANN TAPSTER
- faithful servant

and - the family

of the - Dr -.

She was born the 16th June 1803.
And departed – (this life??) 21 January 1878,

“WITH GOOD WILL DONE SERVICE
AS TO THE LORD AND NOT TO ME”

Thanks Elizabeth

I think we are getting there the 3rd line seems to be

and friend of the family

the next line is possibly
The right Revd Dr ....

I'll do some more digging.

I think I've cracked it. From 1841 and certainly up to 1871 Ann Tapster was in service with the Yerburgh family, first in Sleaford and then Southwold. The head of the family was Rev Richard Yerburgh who died in 1851. According to Ancestry Cambridge Uni Alumini he was awarded a BA, MA & Doctor of Divinity (DD). hence the incsription reading Rev Dr I think.

So I think between us we have

HERE RESTS IN GOD

ANN TAPSTER

......faithful servant

and friend of the family

of the late Rev Dr Yerburgh

she was born 16th June 1803

and departed this .....21 January 1878

“WITH GOOD WILL DONE SERVICE
AS TO THE LORD AND NOT TO ME”
