  • Missing Death

    Hello,

I'm trying to find a death for FREDERICK WILLIAM JEFFERY born in 1858 as Frederic. He married Kate Elizabeth Bone

The family is a bit of a mystery, I have located 7 children but I'm not sure the last one was his as the father's name was not on the baptism.

    This is what I have:
First child, Lillian Naomi was born in 1881, Tonbridge, Kent but baptised in 1895 in Croydon, Surrey.
2nd - Horace John born 1883, baptised 25 Jul 1897 in Southborough nr Tunbridge Wells, Kent.
Then Alfred Harold born 1885 baptised 25 Jul 1897 in Southborough
Elsie Sabina born 02 Jun 1887 died in 1888 in Southborough
Eva Ethel born 1889 baptised 29 Jan 1899 in Southborough
Frederick William born 12 Nov 1891 baptised 29 Jan 1899 in Southborough
Lastly, Elizabeth Maud born in 1898 baptised 29 Jan 1899 in Southborough

It doesn't make sense for Lillian to be baptised all the way over in Croydon as the family had settled in Southborough long before.

I assumed Frederick sr died between 1898 and 1901 but I can't find his death anywhere. I tried between 1891 and 1901 but still nothing. I've tried name variations too but still nothing.

The family are together in 1891

As Lilian was aged about 14 when she was baptised in Croydon wonder whether she was living there, perhaps " in service"
Judith passed away in October 2018

That one's quite a long way away!

I found one in London too but nothing seems to add up. It's like he just vanished!

I wondered that too, It certainly would make sense. But I still can't find his death. His son's marriage certificate in 1919 states that his father was deceased, and he put his mother as next of kin on his ww1 attestation form.

              He just disappears.

Do you have the wife on the 1911 census? What did she out for the completed years married column? Hardly anyone filled it in as they should, so she may have filled it in for the number of years they were married.

                            Remembering: Cuthbert Gregory 1889 - 1916, George Arnold Connelly 1886 - 1917, Thomas Lowe Davenport 1890 - 1917, Roland Davenport Farmer 1885 - 1916, William Davenport Sheffield 1879 - 1915, Cuthbert Gregory 1918 - 1944

I have a couple of cases where the father is described on the marriage cert as 'deceased' but didn't die until some time afterwards: on my mother's side the time gap was only about 16 months, and my father's side it was decades!

That is no good then. Had it said 18 or something that would have given idea for when he left/died.
