  • John Hope Farmer b1868 Edinburgh

Can anyone please find what happend to John Hope Farmer?

born 26 August 1868 in Edinburgh. son of Thomas Farmer and Barbara Hope.

In 1871 at Wardrops Court, Royal Mile, Edinburgh age 3
In 1881 still at Wardrops Court, Royal Mile Edinburgh, age 13 scholar

Since then nothing - I've looked at marriage and deaths in Scotland with no luck.

There's a possible emigration to Canada in 1888 - destination Hamilton, Ontario but gives an age of 21 not 19. I haven't found anything on the 1891 Canadian census.

He could have joined the Army like his father and uncle but not found anything.

He is one of those people you just want to know what happened to him.

Thanks Val - that could be him but nothing comes up in the 1891 Canada census. Will try the US census.

On census, "gent" was often a euphmism for unemployed!

Didn't know that OC - thought it was someone of some standing.

Unfortunately as the last sign of him is being a scholar age 13 there isn't any indication of what sort of employment he went into.
