  • WW1 Hampshire Regiment

    Hi

I am researching a family member named Horace Owen Wyatt b 1896 in Dibden, Hampshire, Regiment number 355786 who was part of the 1st/9th Batalion (cycists, I think) and have found his medal card but can find no record of his service. How can I find out if this part of the "burnt records" or am I not looking in the right place?

Any thoughts, suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thank you

    Gill

I've had a quick look on FMP - his medal card shows up but that's all. There are two other Horace Wyatts with records, but not yours. :(

Both Ancestry and FMP have all the remaining burnt records on line in their respective military sections. As only about a third of the records survived it is highly

likely that your relatives records were amongst the records that were destroyed.

There's a new member in the FaceBook "Hampshire Genealogy" group who seems to be specialising in that regiment. You may be able to get more information by contacting the relevant regimental museum (probably in Winchester, but possibly Aldershot).

Gil D, If you don't get any useful info from what has been already suggested, it may be worth while joining the Great War Forum and posting your questions there too. Lots of knowledgable members there.
