  • Missing Ancestor - Can you help?

    Hi,
I am trying to trace a missing ancestor, namely MARY ANN LIDDY.
She was born on 4/6/1883 in Belfast. Her father was George Liddy and her mother was Margaret (Anderson) Liddy.
She had a sister Margaret(sometimes Maggie) and a brother George.
She appears on the 1901 census of Ireland living with her uncle at house 99, North Queen Street, Belfast. Her mother was dead by this stage and her father had re-married and had a second family.

She does not appear on the 1911 census of Ireland as Mary Ann Liddy. I have searched extensively, but can find no record her marrying or dying in Northern Ireland between the years of 1901 and 1911.

Therefore I have to assume that she has moved to GB or further afield to USA, Canada etc.
Any help in finding a record of her leaving Ireland or arriving elsewhere would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.
    Paul.

Hi Heather, thanks for the reply. Mary was still living in Belfast in 1901, so I don't think the girl travelling to Boston in 1899 is her.
The only marriage I can find in Ireland in 1905 is for a Mary Leddy, not Liddy. If you have found an Irish marriage in 1905 for a Mary Liddy, I would be keen to have any more details you can find.

      Thank you.
      Paul.

Hi Katarzyna, your second post, for Mary Liddy, sounds very promising. Her birth year,1883, is the right year. Can I ask you where you found this record. I had checked the Ellis Island website for a possible crossing for her but it is not recorded on their site. If there are any more details available,e.g. Ship manifest, I would love to hear about them or check it out myself. Thanks for posting.

Unfortunately the Mary Liddy who travelled to USA in 1908(Thread post number 5) turned out to be a Mary Leddy from County Cavan, so I am still looking for my ancestor as described in post 1 of this thread.Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks to those who have replied so far.

Hi Elaine, thanks for your reply. I previously purchased a copy of this marriage certificate, hoping she was 'the one',but her father was called Hugh, not George and his occupation was farmer not pavior. The search goes on!!
                        Thanks again.

Hi Elaine, thanks for the further information. The Alexander M'Kay you mentioned is the husband in the marriage I detailed in the last post. However, I am not aware of a marriage between a Mary Liddy and a John Laverty. Can you give me any other details in relation to John Laverty to help me identify this marriage?

                          Thanks.

Think this is probably Margaret but not very clear. Could possibly be M Anne. It is the nearest relative to George Liddy in the country from whence he came (Ireland) and was heading for Cincinnati.

Vera, thank you so much for your reply. The name must be Margaret, as I have just learned within the last 24 hours that Mary died in Cincinnati, USA in 1921.This is Margaret, a sister of Mary and George. On a more positive note, the address given, 2 McCleery Street Belfast, is an address I know well. It is where the Liddy family continued to live up until the 1970s when it was demolished in the name of progress to make way for an urban motorway!

                                Thanks again.

Saw that on the other forum last night. Good result although very sad about Mary dying so young.
