Just got this email from ScotlandsPeople.

Statutory birth, marriage and death indexes for 2014 are now available to search on ScotlandsPeople.

You can now view the updated indexes for statutory records until the end of 2014, and in addition to this, images for births until 1914, marriages until 1939 and deaths until 1964. You can also purchase an Extract, a fully certified copy of a birth, marriage or death certificate, for 12GBP. For more information on purchasing an official Extract, please read more

Oh that it were England and Wales too

Welcome to the happy side LOL But seriously it's not all a bed of roses...

Although birth indexes are now up to 2014, you will not be able to see mother's maiden name. Because of the 100 year rule for online viewing, this field says "NOT PERMISSABLE" in the more modern entries. You won't see this field in older index results either as it hasn't been added to the SP database yet. When, if ever, they get round to fixing this, I have no idea. You will get to see this info. in results if you are in a Scotland's People Centre though.

There are plans afoot by the GRO to have historical certs online but as no one seems keen to tender for the work, it may be a long time coming!

Ancestry has the E&W death index to 2013 as a separate dataset here http://search.ancestry.co.uk/search/db.aspx?dbid=60630 says only 55% of records though.
