My Father, Harry Jack Pride Taylor, never knew his Father although he is named as above the on my Dad`s birth cert. of 1905. His mother was Fanny Taylor, nee.Pride and she gave birth to my Dad,(her one and only child) when she was 42. On the 1911 census she says she has been married for 17 years and says she has 1 living child (Obviously my Dad). I have searched, since the 1980`s but have been unable to positively identify him. I am unwilling to give up but am prepared to accept I might never find out. It is such a common name. I am sure he must have been roughly the same age as Fanny b. 1863 and would therefore have been in the Boer War. He must also have been in England in Jan/Feb 1905 for my father to have been conceived as he was b. 18. 10. 1905.
My Dad was born in Fulham and at that time his mother was in "service" in Hampstead. I guess this was a difficult time for Fanny and indeed she asked a close friend to look after him. This meant she could go on earning money. I have never found a marriage cert for Fanny. My dad was baptised at St Ethelreda church in Fulham in the November of 1905. The church magazine records his baptism as Henry Taylor but his birth cert registers him as Harry Taylor. The current Vicar says the actual records are lost.
I have tried various Forums with no success. Family Tree forum is my last chance. As you may have guessed I am not young. I am 76.
I just hope some one out there may be able to help me.
