The following all seems to hang together but no sign of a Beresford in the trail so far...

Sarah Delves Vipond baptised 27 Apr 1862 Great Berkhampstead, Hertfordshire. Father Thomas Vipond Mother: Elleneaor (sic)
Sarah Delves Vipond marries Dennis James Ward 30 April 1882 at Holy Trinity Anglican church in Nottingham

His birth was registered Newark, Nottinghamshire quarter 2 1863 vol 7b page 304
He is in the 1881 census in Grantham Lincolnshire as a solicitor's general clerk. Living with father William, a basket maker, mother Jane and siblings.

Daughter Isaline Gladys Wood born 1885, Newtown, Montgomeryshire, Wales. (Ie Wales the country, not a town north of London as you have been led to believe!) Birth registered Q3 volume 11 page 175

In 1891 Dennis is an accountant, with wife Sarah D Wood, artist in photo (??) and daughter Isaline Wood, born Newtown, Montgomeryshire. They are now living in Humberstone, Billesdon, Leicestershire.

I can then find Mrs S D Wood and Miss Gladys Wood aged 7 departing Liverpool 29 September 1892 on the Caspian en route for Baltimore.

Not sure when or even if Dennis travelled to the U.S.
That's all I've got time for tonight but I'm sure someone else will be along to pick up the trail in the USA...

Another Ancestry tree (by user pdinger44) has entries showing that Dennis James WOOD also went to the USA - has him in prison in Baltimore in 1900 (claiming to be widowed) , then marrying Clara Belle FAUCETT in 1901 ( claiming no previous marriages) and dying in Delaware in 1941. The tree also has details of Isaline Gladis WOOD and her life, so is definitely connected and worth contacting.

Sara (listed as Dora) and Gladys, now using the name BERESFORD appear to be with a Lee R FLOYD in the 1900 US census, as his wife and step-daughter.

I had a feeling this would get interesting in America!

There's an Arthur D Beresford married to Sarah VyPond (sic) in this tree http://trees.ancestry.co.uk/tree/10674321/person/-598354897 which gives the year of death as 1891 but the source in OneWorld Tree so no evidence at all.

Here's a possible death for him in US http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=WO&GSpartial=1&GSbyrel=all&GSst=10&GScntry=4&GSsr=281&GRid=84304708&
It looks like he married a second time.

Maybe the Beresfrod name comes from a second marriage for Sarah Vipond.
