After a rather long hiatus from the forum and also the genealogical aspects of life, I have come back and decided to further my quest for answers to my family tree. This side is my maternal side of the family and it goes like this.
My late mother was Ann Maureen England (née Gilfoyle) and she was born to a Mr Thomas Gilfoyle and Ethel Watson. Thomas Gilfoyle was the son of the late William Henry Gilfoyle and Mrs Emily Jane Roden. I think that much is pretty certain. However, I have run into a slight problem in that there were quite a few gilfoyles in the Chorlton/Ancoats/Gorton areas of Manchester in the 1800s and it seems that most of them came over after 1841 since they are not listed in the 1841 census at all. The problem I have is that the father of William Henry Gilfoyle (né 1866 in Manchester) is Thomas Gilfoyle. However, it seems that, if I have got this correct, married not once, but twice. The first time to a Mary Ann Bell and secondly, to her sister Eliza Gilfoyle later on. Can anyone confirm this please? I would be most grateful. Secondly, I also have a problem with Emily Jane Roden and it seems from reading the banns from Manchester, she is from the Wrexham area and her father was Edward Roden, is there any way of confirming this too. For information, she married someone else and became a Fanning so, for her second marriage, she would be called Emily Jane Fanning, and I am not too sure if the banns exist in this case. Many, many thanks for your help in this matter. Have a fantastic evening and it is great to be back after such a long layoff.
