Awww, shucks -
You are quite correct - I should have said 1871.
The link is correct
He's the seaman on the first line.
But, if you find him in the 1861, or earlier, or his death... I need those, too!Last edited by PhotoFamily; 14-06-15, 05:26.

Hi Sarah
On this page the place of birth is recorded as County then Town so for William it looks like Devon [not Durham per entries further below] place Consett [? which is in Co. Durham]. I see wife Elizabeth has remarried by 1881 so not possible to find a better written census record for William!

The marriage entry is available from Durham Records Online (credit based) - not sure if it is just a transcription or the image which is provided. If it's just transcription then if it's done fully it should contain names of fathers and occupations.
The entry for Elizabeth is transcribed as Elizabeth Henderson Turner.

Thanks, Elaine.
I see they were in West Hartlepool, so the ennumerator would have been familiar with northern names but not those in the south west. I am inclined to think its a fudge and does actually say "Devon Cornwall".
Probably william Palmer himself was vague when filling in the return. Or if the ennumerator did it perhaps he couldn't understand his accent, whuch would have been been very different from the West Hartlepool accent!! LOL

I am inclined to think it is Cornwell, for Cornwall, however I will throw Cornwood in, on the off chance. It is a parish near Plymouth.Bubblebelle x
FAMILY INTERESTS: Pitts of Sherborne Gloucs. Deaney (Bucks). Pye of Kent. Randolph of Lydd, Kent. Youell of Norfolk and Suffolk. Howe of Lampton. Carden of Bucks.

Thank you all. This is for someone else...I don't buy records for other people, but I'll let him know.
I did think about Cornwood, but it does look to me like a double-L on the end. Cornwood would be interesting because there's a branch of the family there. I also wondered if he was right on the border of the two counties.

Father is John Palmer, seaman. William's stated age is 21 (married on 5 Apr 1865 ==> 1844) of Hartlepool; sailor. Bride's age was 20, married by banns.
Witnesses: Mary Ann Covens, Sarah Canning
Anyone want to take a stab at finding him in the 1861 or 1851?Last edited by PhotoFamily; 14-06-15, 17:45.

Questions tho -
Do the greenwich pension records still exist?
Do you assume that the children were born in Brampton, Devon, even tho no POB was written?
Not finding a Brampton, Devon, but I am finding Bampton, Devon - but no body of water close to it. Suggestions?
