  • fmp burial entry help

    on FMP, burial of thomas carter, 1788 at guisborough, yorkshire. there is a symbol after his name in both the deaths and burials and bishop's transcript's images. can anyone make out what it is?

    Do you mean the burial 23 June 1789 - that's the only one I can see for Guisborough - can't see anything in 1788.
    If it is the symbol looks like a P - there are similar ones further up the page. ? Pauper

      The letter 'P' after an entry could denote death by the plague or the deceased was a pauper.
      Records of Anglican burials. The system of registration was established in 1538 by Thomas Cromwell, Lord Privy Seal to Henry VIII...

        thanks elaine, i couldn't make it out in the deaths and burials entry, but it was definently separate from the end of his name in the bishop's transcripts deaths image. p for pauper.
