Have struck a brick wall with the births of William and Arthur Withers and their mother Anne Clarke who was also born in Ontario Canada. William was born on 10 November 1878 and Arthur in 1881. Anne was married to Arthur Charles Withers and they went to England probably around 1881-1883 where their next child Charlotte was born.

Originally posted by LaurieW View PostThanks, Julie. We do have a lot on the family from England and it is just the Canadian births that we are having trouble with. We are members of Ancestry and haven't been able to find anything there either. My aim for this year is to find William and Arthur's birth and also their mother's. Because Windsor is just across the river from Detroit (this is where the boys were baptized) we wondered if, at some stage, Windsor might have been part of USA. We had heard the border changed many times in the early days.
Many thanks for looking.

not sure of time difference where you are, but it's 7.45am here.. have you tried looking on Familysearch for the baptisms? do you think that they may have been born before their mother married and therefore in their mothers maiden name? could they have been born/baptised elsewhere then moved to Windsor?
having just read some of annabels thread, I now see.
do you know when it became compulsory to register a birth in Canada? [or when the records began?] the reason I ask is that although our own registration system began in 1837 quite a lot of people didn't register their children's birth [they baptised them instead] it wasn't until 1875 when a law was passed that fined those that didn't register their children and as a result many more [if not all] were registered.Julie
