  • Research in India

I have a relation who was stationed in India during WW1 and after the war married a British national who was born there. I have reason to believe that she was in fact second generation there. What is the best way to research the records of that country. I am particularly interested in any family who may have been born and of course the deaths. Thank you Stella x

Have a look here http://www.familytreeforum.com/content.php/438-India for a list of places to look.

The British Library has some India records and Find My Past has Overseas BMDs and Army BMDs.

The web site FIBIS (google it) - Foreigners in British India Society - may have something on your persons of interest. It is a quite a while since I have had to visit that site

so I am not sure what the cut off dates are.

I have found a relative who lived in India on Family Search Org - they have an Indian section.

Familysearch India will only go up to 100 years ago as they have 100 year rule https://familysearch.org/search/coll...IA_MIDDLE_EAST You can also join rootsweb India List http://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/i...IND/INDIA.html to join click the link INDIA-L-request@rootsweb.com and write the words subscribe just that then you will get a message back and you can ask the members about your family history, some of them were living in India up until partition in 1950s and are very helpful as well as knowledgable.
