  • Book of Psalms

I am tryingto help a friend with their tree and they have a book of psalms with a dedication to XXX dated Feb 1870 and signed legibly by a relative we know about.
    Problems:-
    1) i cant read the person's name XXX nor am i able to upload to photobox or anything like that but i have worked out the surname and it does tie in with some family. have hunted on ancestry and family search for the first name but no results are at all even near the image.
    2) i dont know who would give a book of psalms - would it be for a baptism or confirmation gift and if so would it be given by the godfather?
    3) if its a confirmation gift then how old would the person be getting confirmed please so i can work out the birth date?
    thanks for reading this

    Point 3
To quote the book 'The Anglican Church in the Nineteenth Century':
"There is no precise age for confirmation: children, adults and even some old people receive it"

Point 2. More likely at a confirmation.

Thank you very much that information- makes a lot of sense so I can go hunting for a birth ten or more years back from 1870. Very useful- thankyou.
