  • John Little ( Liddell ) and Sally ( Sarah ) Fisken Brickwall

I have been doing my fathers family tree now since 2005 and have come across several brick walls one that i am trying to defeat is a proclamation of marriage regarding John Little (Liddell) and Sally (Sarah) Fisken in the Kinnoull Parish on the 29th November 1807. The proclamation is the only document that i have regarding John Liddell and Sarah Fisken...I have no other information on the apart from details of their so Hodgen Liddell 1816, Shelterton died 4 Sep 1888, Glasgow, Lanark married Blair Burnett Scott THYNNE....but i have no parentage or birth records for John Little (Liddell) or Sally (Sarah) Fisken

My family was already started by a member of the Malcolm line in my family tree. But there was and is no information about John Little (Liddell) or Sally (Sarah) Fisken or their parentage....I have documents relating to Hodgen Liddell in Census records and also his death certificate which states the parentage as John Liddell and Sarah Fisken. It was suggested that i tried locating John Little (Liddell) and Sally (Sarah) Fisken on the "Scottish Post Office Directories" But i wouldn't know how to use it as i have never tried a search like that before...

If anybody can assist me in finding the parentage of John and Sarah it would be great

Google "Scottish Post Office historical directories" and the first hit is a list of directories held by the National Library of Scotland. They are free to search online.

I have just looked at that one on Scotlands People Elaine and unfortunately it doesn't give any more information than you have quoted above.

Need to ask Chrissie, would this be the same as the proclamation if ordered, have not had many Scottish records to look at and am curious?

according to a library a proclamation is up for 3 weeks before a marriage but not sure if that was the case back in 1807
