I am looking for details of the Dudgeon family, I understand that the family possibly came from Scotland. I am looking for the parents of Henry Miller Dudgeon, who married Clara Hardy in Leicester. They had one daughter Hilda who was born in 1910. Henry was known locally as Harry and had a building business. He built a large number of houses in the Stoneygate and Knighton area of Leicester between 1920 and his death which I believe was in 1942.

I think you will find that Hilda G Dudgeon wasn't born until Oct-Dec quarter 1911 Leicester ref 7a 496. In the 1911 census they state that they have had no children born to the marriage.

In 1891 Henry is with his parents George and (I think) Mary anne. George born Leicester, Mary Ann? born Limerick Ireland and the first 3 children born Canada. The next three, including Henry, born Leicester.

Agree about the tree, had found info in my bits before looking and it did pan out with the tree, I can pinpoint some churches where there are BMD refs, Henry Millar married in a register office. There are some Early Dudgeon non conformist baptisms but so far only have back to Leicester.Elaine

Hi,
Thank you for the information about Henry, known as harry or Pud. I forgot that MIL was called Hilda Gertrude.....and that she was born in 1910 was a typo.
The Martha was grandfathers sister and lived at Balderton in Notts, Grandma was staying with them when she died which is why the death was registered in Nottinghamshire, and not Leicestershire. it was 3 months or so after we married in 1961 and 80 could well have been her age. I thought that Martha lived with her brother Maurice, but cannot find any details about him in your info. I think he was injured during the war as he suffered with leg problems, I do not really remember a lot about him to be honest.
The enquiry was initiated when my niece came for lunch yesterday. I told her what I knew about her family. Hers and mine were linked by our Grandfathers, and I married his grandson in 1961 having known him and his sister for many years.
The fact that Henry and Clara married in the registry office was a surprise as both of them were instrumental in the building of Clarendon Park Methodist Church, which was the family church and where we were married and our children and grandchildren christened. Grandmother was Clara Hardy before her marriage.
Now I have the basic information I will start and investigate the rest of the family. I am very grateful for your help so far, I may need it again. I remember MIL saying that the family originated in Scotland, they must have gone to Canada at some point. May be shipping records might help there.
