I'm trying to trace my grandmothers brother born 1892 as john Ernest Rawling in London. Found on 1901 census with mother and 2 sisters and as it turns out father George Bartlett. By 1907 1 sister and mother had died. 1908 father had died leaving John and my grandmother alone. My grandmother was bought up by George Bartlett junior) but never knew what happened to john. Could have gone abroad? Have also searched war records but if I search john Rawling or John Bartlett on war records or emigration records I just get name. How can I go further to ensure this name is him?

Yes, George Bartlett was his father (head of household). As you can see Ellen Rawling
was a widow (her husband died in sept 1890) and although family are boarders have
since found that they had a relationship.
John was born in 1892.
In 1906 Nellie had died of Tb
In 1907 Ellen Rawling committed suicide (family hearsay was that there was a photo
of Nellie which Ellen had written on the back "my darling I am coming".
My grandmother was Jessie Rawling and after her mothers death she was brought up
by George Bartlett Junior (George's son) I have found them all living together
in Walthamstow in 1911.
George Bartlett senior died the next year in 1908.
I researched newspapers of the area where Ellen committed suicide and found an
article reporting the inquest. In it George States that he'd known her for years
and fathered 5 children with her.
This prompted me to look for the other children. I found twins George and Ellen
born 1894 who both died the same year.
My grandmother never knew what happened to her brother John. There was talk of
him maybe being sent abroad.
I have all the children's birth certificates. No father was named on any except
Johns but it looks like George Bartlett crossed out but the newspaper article verified
this.
In my searching I am trying both John Rawling and John Bartlett but so far have
not found anything.
