  • Richard Ratcliffe talking to the Bucks Genealogical Society

My apologies that this is short notice.

    From rootsweb Buckinghamshire mailing list:

Parish registers hold mostly the basic building bricks. There were so many
other facets of life for the inhabitants of a village, and before 1834, almost
every aspect of that life was controlled by parish officers, unpaid, unelected,
unskilled, even near-uneducated, but somehow, they did their jobs tolerably
competently, were totally uninhibited in their dealings, and thus shine a great
light on the murky corners of ancestral life. There could be papers
revealing the parentage of that baby, detailing the financial manouevres of
the farmer, the small domestic skills of the housewives, the number of shifts
and blankets blagged off 'the social', even the sporting prowess of the little
lads. Richard Ratcliffe is talking to the Bucks Genealogical Society about
TREASURES FROM THE PARISH CHEST on Saturday Oct 11 at 2.30 at
the Southcourt Community Centre, Prebendal Ave, Aylesbury
(off A418 Oxford Rd, west of town centre. Turn left into Churchill Ave, left
into Prebendal. Easy parking. Examples of all kinds of parish records on
    display. Map on www.bucksgs.org.uk
