  • Westcott: fractured family

Trying to tie up a few loose threads with this one.

This is a bit of a follow on from the thread here:- http://www.familytreeforum.com/showt...807-12-Norfolk

George Richard Westcott b. 1832 St George Middx, d. 1882 Lambeth, a victualler
    married
    Sarah Hall b.1833 Swaffham Norfolk
in 1833 St George H Sq

In 1861 census they are living in Westminster

    children: Sarah Clifford Westcott 1854-1861
    George Alfred Westcott b.1857 Westminster
    Frank b. 1859 Pimlico d.1924 Penge

The family appear to fragment around this time

George Alfred is found in the 1871 census as a lodger to Sophia Eavy in Swaffham
    Source citation class:RG10;Piece:1869;Folio:124;Page:47;GSUroll:83 0854.

However he is not with his parents in 1861, can anyone find him please?

He marries Louisa Ellen Pavey 28 Sept 1879 St John the Evangelist East Dulwich. On this he cites his father as Richard Westcott, but I cannot read the occupation. Can someone help please?

Meanwhile George Richard appears to disappear in the 1860's. I have found a court file in 1856 and I wonder if he evolves into Richard Westcott married to Amy. However I am unsure of this as I have found a death for George R in 1882, although I cannot find him in 1871 or 1881 under this name. Can anyone help please?

His wife Sarah remarries, possibly bigamously in 1879 to William Youell, her son Frank takes the Youell surname, but on his marriage record he cites his father as Richard Youell victualler, although it should be Westcott. He marries a granddaughter of William Youell.

I have managed to unravel thus far but I cannot find Frank or Sarah in 1871, can anyone help please?

    Sorry this so long winded.

The papers mention a George Richard Westcott of the Hunters Arms, presumably the one you have found. Do you have William Youell 1871?

Thank you Elaine... no I do not have the newspaper report, but will go to FMP and hope I can find them.

As for William had a quick look on my tree but no I do not have him in 1871 although I sort of recall seeing him with one of his children off to search for that too. Far too many mistranscriptions for the Youell name to contend with.

Thanks again Elaine. I did wonder re Gentleman. Yes the newspaper reports I have read so far relate to the court case, he was acquitted, there is also mention of assault.
