  • 1861 lookup please

Trying to find Samuel & Harriet Griffin, both born c1841.

He was born Sneinton, Nottinghamshire / occupation Shoe maker (cordwainer)

She was born Lutterworth, Leicestershire. They married in 1859, Nottingham.

In 1871 they're living in Sneinton, Nottinghamshire, however I've found a burial in Leicester, March 1861, for their 11 month old son Thomas, abode: Blackfriars St. Leic.

Any help to find them in 1861 appreciated.

Update: Thomas's birth registered Q2 1860 Radford, Notts.

The other one married Elizabeth Taylor, found him 1861 and he wasn't a smith, can't remember now but you should find him c1837. The only other I would say your Samuel's father at a guess, marrying Martha Smith St Mary 1832 3 Sep...just the 3 marriages

Just had a look at baptisms and the ones listed are for all 3 couples. Thomas and Martha are in Byron Street at one point and the children on the census forms for Thomas and Harriet are there

Em, Eliza and Martha are baptised 14 Oct 1870

wow ... thanks Elaine for some very useful info - I couldn't find any of the baptisms or Samuel & Martha's marriage.

                Occ smith 10th April 1860
It seems an odd transition from smith to cordwainer/shoe maker ??

                    ? was she buried in 1865 ? age 65 ?
                    Her birth year varies on 1841-1861 censuses e.g. 1816, 1812, 1814
