    My Aunt ( Now Dead ) Edith Rose Rhoda Bailey Married a Peter Smith In Croydon about 1945. and any help on Peter would be gratefully received . I do know that they were divorced. Can you help please That's all I know , I think . My tree got blown away so I am having to start from scratch , and with what memories I could retain , which aren't many

    I doubt that you will find any parish registers online for that date - there are some on Ancestry for Croydon but they only go up to 1937,

    A copy of the marriage certificate - £9.25 from the General Register Office - would give you the fathers' names and occupations of both bride and groom which may help you trace the family back - but of course the surname Smith doesn't help because it's so common!

    Divorce records for that time are not readily available either.

    Do you know if they had any children - if so it might be worth trying to see if you can trace them forward and make contact.
