My maternal Grandmother was Anna Marther Cooper Poole (b. 1864).
You would expect the Cooper to refer to her mothers's surname, but no, that was totally different.
There is a Cooper in her Poole tree, but that was her grandmother.
Fast forward a bit. I have a portrait of her daughter (at the age of 5), in pastel on canvas, on an oval mahogany frame. There is an inscription on the back:
"By the artist, Miss Cooper, of Chandos, Hampton Rd, Twickenham, 1905"
I have been unable to locate a street directory of Twickenham for 1905.
Needless to say, there was no-one called Cooper that I can find in either of the censuses, so I am stuck looking for an un-named female Cooper - and where I don't even know if there was a family connection.
There probably is a good reason why this particular artist did the portrait, but I don't know why.
Any ideas or thoughts?
Geoff
