  • Great great grandmother Laura

Hi,I would love some information about my great great grandmother Laura Griffith of Hendy,Sarn Meillteyrn near Pwllheli Gwynedd. She married John Griffiths of Meillteyrn on the 18th ofAugust 1857 in the parish of Denio. She was Jones before she married and was born at Glanmorfa or Glanmorfa Bach Abererch near Pwllheli her father was Evan Jones.I would like to find out her mother's name and if she had any siblings and where they lived before 1860

      Welcome to the Forum.

Have you got a subscription to Ancestry or Find My Past? You could look for her on either of these sites in the 1841 and 1851 censuses which will hopefully show her living with her parents.

Her birth is too early for the Statutory Birth registers so it could only be found in the parish registers. You could look on Familyserach.org which is a free site for her baptism/christening.

What is her father's occupation on the marriage certificate - this would help to identify her in the censuses.

Who are the witnesses on the marriage certificate?

I'm having trouble finding anything obvious on the 1841 / 51 censuses.

In 1851 Census, I don't think they have moved far. Still in same area but another son, Hugh aged 7 has been added. In this instance, Mother & daughter have the first name of Lowry and I'm assuming it is Welsh for Laura?

Those two look quite likely I would say.

I just don't know if it is the correct family,on Laura's wedding certificate it says that her father was a labourer,he wouldn't havebeen a labourer if he farmed 120 acres this is very puzzling.

That record for Evan as a farmer was for 1841 and in those days people's fortunes could change very quickly. If farming was all he knew then he would probably be classed as a labourer in later life.
I don't know what you book is but that may not be correct either!
