  • Ancestry or Find My Past?

What are the Plus and Minus for using either 'Ancestry UK'' or 'Find My Past'. I would probably purchase units or a monthly payment as and when I have time to use it.

They both have so much stuff that it would be a good idea to see which covers your area best. If you are paying monthly you could chop and change anyway. In case it helps your choice, I have a sub for both but nearly always reach for Ancestry first, then FMP but I do quite often have them both open at the same time.

I tend to switch between the two. The best thing to do is explore the database catalogues to check for specialist databases which are not on both. So for example Dorset Record Office (England) Archives are on Ancestry, but British India records and the British Newspaper Archive are on Find My Past.

I expect I was unlucky; I set up 3 trees on FMP and, after a few weeks I was only able to access two of them. I have contacted FMP three times, they say it is with their technical people. But after 5 weeks still not able to get access.
