  • Kilmainham Gaol records - Daniels family

    Hi,
I am tracing the Daniels family from Kilmainham in Dublin and have come across a number of references to family members on FMP website in connection with the Kilmainham Gaol. The info given is fairly basic but I'm wondering if there would be further information available elsewhere for example court records that would give additional information. Many thanks Paul

Would the FMP Entry offer anymore info?

Thanks seems strange that there are several references to this family on the family search website but not on FMP? Was going to get a subscription if there was additional information available .

There's quite a lot of additional info. 19/20 headings & description split into 5 sub headings, even giving weight on entry & exit. You'll need an Irish or World sub to see it. The record is for Lizzie's husband John. There were 3 for 1908 but could only see 2. One was an assault on a Lizzie & the other for a 19 year old Lizzie with a brother James.

Thanks Oakum, so there is additional info which is good to know. There are a Number for John Daniels so might be worth taking a look or waiting for a FMP promotion.

                  Update

Just spent two wonderful days in Dublin visited lots of sites including Kilmainham Jail and Woodfield Place off Sarsfield Road, which is the place my grandmother was living when she was born in 1911. Great experience to walk the same steps she would have taken over 100 years ago.

I've been to Kilmainham jail twice. The first time was 1967, before it was "done up" for tourism and I wept buckets in the execution yard at the spot where James Connolly was shot, having been carried from across the road on a stretcher, into the yard, and tied to a chair to hold him upright so he could be killed. My second visit was more public and I managed to keep back the tears, but I wouldn't enter the yard.
Dublin is a wonderful, vibrant zany city - I hope you enjoyed your visit. Lots to see and soak up.

yes we had an amazing time lots to see and do and so much history. Our guide at the jail was very informative and helpful and told us the story and history around the various troubles including James Connolly's execution.

Forgot to add to this thread that I did manage to take advantage of a promotion and get access to the prison records which provided a wealth of additional information.
