  • Gert Fanny Fisher mar Victoria

Had a really lucky break with one of my Wards and found the last remaining enigma in Australia. George Roy Ward had some detailed military records online and I have found his mother's second marriage

    Name: Gerte Fanny Ward
    Spouse Name: Harry Maddox
    Marriage Place: Victoria
    Registration Place: Victoria 1919
    Registration Number: 131

I can see they are on F* world sub and wondered if someone could help me with anymore details, hoping mother is a Parker as it would pull everything together.
    Thanks
    Elaine

Just checked FMP World for you and there is no other information, other than what you have.

You might like to check out the following links to Trove - it might be your couple.

Mr. Justice a Beckett to-day concluded the hearing of the petition of Alice Maddox (35), of St. Leonards-road, Ascotvale, for divorce from [?]arry Maddox (38), engineer, ...

If you enter WARD and MADDOX in the Trove search and limit to 1910 (menu on left side) you will find it was quite a sensation at the time. I cannot see any death notices in Trove, and wonder why they waited so long to marry (was her first husband still alive ?)

They may have moved to Darwin - http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/arti...||l-decade=193

so you may have to hunt all over Australia for them - ancestry has Electoral Rolls and death registrations which might point to a time frame.

This looks like Harry retiring from the railways - so at least you have a time frame for looking for them.

A valedictory evening was tendered to Mr. and Mrs. Maddox at their residence at the 2½ Mile on Saturday evening last, when a large ...

A Gertrude Fanny Maddox is listed in ancestry's Australian Electoral Rolls at Maribynong in Victoria in 1931, but then from 1933 to 1958 in NSW.

A NSW death registration in 1959 names her father as George.

Ryerson Index to Newspaper death notices says 90 years of Cammeray died 14 Jul 1959 - the Ryerson people will look up the notice for you if you go to their page. Its just too late for Trove to cover.

The WW1 records of George Roy Ward do tell an awful lot about his family. Piecing it together - father George lived in Adelaide and died in Jan 1919, so then Gertrude was free to marry Harry. But meanwhile her address is given as various railway camps - presumably she accompanied Harry Maddox before marrying him.

I know! I posted and then had another look in the papers putting in Harry, gone from nothing to absolutely loads
I had not used the Australian archives very much and the letters from his family give stacks of addresses, one is Harry's. Just need to find what happened to Doris M Ward...she writes a letter or two as well with regards to her brother's belongings. George snr died after an operation.
Would you believe I found George jnr on a Rutlandshire Army list which started the ball rolling, love it.
              Thanks so much for looking

One newspaper described the divorce proceedings as "Amusing" but Harry and Fanny appeared to have stayed together - I wonder what happened to the suspicious Alice ?

Our digitised WW1 records contain so much information and nearly every one has something different. You will probably be able to trace Doris M Ward through the electoral rolls and BMDs on ancestry. I can't see anything for her in Trove
