Do you have the link to the 1851/1861 with them on Val?

Got to go now but will try and look in later.

If his oarents were not married when he was born, why would you expect him to be registered as Pegler and not Slocombe?

Also, if he was illegitimate, his mother may not have bothered registering him, it was not compulsory at the time. (Well, it WAS compulsory, but it wasn't the duty of the parents to register the birth).

that is the 1851 census Chrissie this is him in 1861

OC I thought as they had baptised him under Pegler he would be registered under that too ?

Elaine it says aged 3 born Bristol

Caroline that does look promising thanks for that looks good, but why would he be registered in Somerset ? his Mother was in Gloucestershire in 1841 and 1851

Merely passing on the details of a possibly relevant birth registration and as Bristol and Bridgewater aren't that far apart..... and in the same county then to boot.

There is another child listed on the census after Henry - I think it says age 10 months but cannot read it clearly.
Have you found her birth registration - if so which surname was used and in which district was the birth registered.

Who was the father of Alfred, Charles and Clara Ann? Maybe Henry was registered in that name and baptised Peglar later ...long shot.

Another long shot.... do Abraham or Emma have relatives in Gloucester? She may have gone there for the birth.
