Until recently I only had the marriage of my gggGrandfather and was unable to trace him on any census- just the christening record of his daughter. I have now made a breakthrough after finding a newspaper article about him.
The marriage I have is Thomas Bolton (shoemaker) and Sarah Barnes 9/7/1836 at St John's, Coventry
their daughter was christened there 30/1/1837.
i then became stuck as Sarah Barnes then married David Dadley at the same church in 1838 as a spinster. I know she was the same person due to her children from different marriages.
After hunting for what happened to Thomas Bolton I came across a couple of articles in newspapers for court cases in 1867. It is rather confusing, but this is the information I have from them. Thomas Bolton of Preston married Sarah Barnes bigamously (not found guilty as not enough evidence) as he was already married to Mary Sharples (Margaret Sharples 15/11/1827in Blackburn, Lancs?). Wife 1 died, married wife 3 who died, then married wife 4 (Sarah Marshall 13/11/1864 St John's Preston?) and he served 1 months hard labour for deserting her and returning to Coventry.
i possibly have him in 1851- born 1811 Blackburn, shoe maker living with Maria Bolton in Preston but can't find him on other census records.
Can anyone find him at all?
