I have in 1911 William and Eliza Studd with their youngest two daughters Sophia and Lydia; straightforward. Also in the household are William Howard, boarder, 38, Widower and Eliza Awcock, grandaughter, 10 (http://interactive.ancestry.co.uk/23...l=ReturnRecord).
My question; is William Howard related?
William and Eliza have put down that they had 13 children; 7 still alive, 6 died. I have found baptisms for all 13 (that doesn't happen very often!)
Sarah Lydia 1875
William George 1877
Eliza Louise 1878
Henry Alexander 1879
Charlotte 1881
Ellen 1882
Edward Whitting 1884
Louisa Amelia 1885
Mary Ann 1887
Ada 1889
George 1891
Sophia Elizabeth 1893
Lydia 1895
William died in 1877
Henry 1881
Charlotte 1881
Edward 1886
Mary An 1888
I have found the remaining 8 children in 1901:
Louisa, Ada, George, Sophia and Lydia with their parents
Sarah married to William Henry Charles HOWARD b1873 with children Eliza, William and Henry.
Eliza married to Joseph SHEPHERD b1877 with children Louisa and George
Ellen married to John Thomas AWCOCK b1878 with daughter Lizer.
I have the parish record for all 3 marriages.
So, according to the 1911 census, one of these 8 died before the 1911 census, but which one?
Sophia and Lydia are with parents, Eliza is still with Joseph, Ellen is still with John (they have more children, including a new born which is why eldest Lizer/Elizer is with grandparents) Louisa has married William George Tadman and has 3 children.
That leaves Sarah, Ada and George missing, so one of them must be the 7th one to die.
Ada (see my other thread) and George are missing in 1911 with no obvious death records, but the big problem I have is Sarah.
My best guess is that Sarah has died, and her husband William is the boarder living with her parents. There is no sign of William and Sarah Howard together. However the only death I can find for Sarah Howard is Lambeth Q1 1907, but that isn't quite in the right area of London. Two of the children (Eliza and William) are probably living with William and Elizabeth Thomas as niece and nephew, but no sign of Charlotte. I don't know who the Thomas's are; probably related to William but as he is a 'married in' I haven't traced his family.
Am I adding 2 and 2 and coming up with 5? Can anyone see any other options?
