  • Marriage at Sea - 1773 or 1873?

I have just come across something I saved to my computer and forgot about.

I am researching the Cassidy's of Makenny and its surrounds in Co. Tyrone. I had noted earlier that a Patrick Cassidy had gone to the USA and I am sure it was in 1770s. I have now found a list of marriages at Sea on a Shipping List.

A Patrick Cassidy married an Elizabeth Looney on 15.7.73 (doesn't say whether 1773 or 1873 or where vessel going or where from). The vessel was the Atlas (28477) which was the name and official number.

Does anyone know how I can check this - the list doesn't have a "header" showing the source.

Have found a birth at sea for Cassidy/Looney child in 1873 - on BMD registers - http://www.bmdregisters.co.uk/bmdr/r...all_set=1&st=s

I suspect it was 1873. The ship is listed here (put the number in the search box if the link doesn't work properly)

Good Lord. The cad. He married her at least - on 15.7.73 at sea - I hadn't realised there was a child - I presume before the matrimonials?

Thank you both - can't believe how quickly you found it.
