It is well worth subscribing ... unless you already have a subscription to findmypast as it is included in that already.
In fact, I would go for findmypast anyway if I were thinking of taking out a sub to the newspapers since you get access to so much more that way for not really an enormous amount more for an annual subscription.
It's obviously up to you, but many of us find that we need both ancestry and findmypast subscriptions anyway, so for about £20 you would have both Ancestry AND FMP AND all the newspapers....
£79.95 GBP 12 months Newspaper Archive only
£99.50 for FMP 12 months Britain full subcription including all the Newspaper Archive.
Its also worth checking with your library. Here in Essex they have recently added the British Newspaper Archive to their list of resources although unlike the other newspapers they offer you have to view them in the library
I tend to check the archive search to see what they have in relation to family members.. jot down the key words, build up a list and then when I have a fair few I take out a 2 day subscription and have a blitz.
I do not subscribe to FMP but have found more articles via the Newspaper Archive than when looking at FMP, but that could be because I am not used to searching so much on that site.

The Newspaper Archive website has a far better search engine and filter options than the one on FMP - I tend to often use that to narrow down dates etc and then use the more detailed info to search on FMP that I have a sub to
