When searching through court records and you get 'your man'......how do you follow the information up to get more information. I presume it would be prison records I need to be looking at. Where would I find those. I am looking at Dronfield in Derbyshire. Stella x

http://forebears.co.uk/england/derbyshire/dronfield this site covers the area of Dronfield which may be useful.
It may depend on what years you are looking at for Court Records and what sort of punishments were given of that time, Prisoners were shipped to places like Australia for the simplest of reasons in the early years, Census will show a prisoner in a UK Prison as Prisoner, I have one of these in 1851 census at Newgate Prison and was given 2 years for larceny while under the influence of drink.
Old Bailey on Line is another source where you can see the records on line for free if the case was tried in the London area, though many other sources depending on the year.
