  • Most unusual first name.

From a 1901 Census in Cheshire I have come across this name. The interpretation is 'Sabiscoline' but really I have no idea. Has anyone encountered such a name?

Looks more to me as if the enumerator mistakenly wrote Salisbury as the first name then overwrote it. Checking forwards and back to 1891 and 1911 I'd like to bet that this is actually Samuel Salisbury who was with wife Harriet in 1891 RG12 piece 2873 folio 71 page 19

Good thinking Judith. There is a Tree on Ancestry using this name and attaching a Samuel and the other to Harriet.
