I had a go, too, without success. Have you tried searching for either of the addresses given in the wedding record?
There are some pretty dire transcriptions for the 1871 in London - not least because the enumerators' handwriting wasn't always at all clear!
ChristineResearching: BENNETT (Leics/Birmingham-ish) - incl. Leonard BENNETT in Detroit & Florida ; WARR/WOR, STRATFORD & GARDNER/GARNAR (Oxon); CHRISTMAS, RUSSELL, PAFOOT/PAFFORD (Hants); BIGWOOD, HAYLER/HAILOR (Sussex); LANCASTER (Beds, Berks, Wilts) - plus - COCKS (Spitalfields, Liverpool, Plymouth); RUSE/ROWSE, TREMEER, WADLIN(G)/WADLETON (Devonport, E Cornwall); GOULD (S Devon); CHAPMAN, HALL/HOLE, HORN (N Devon); BARRON, SCANTLEBURY (Mevagissey)...

Hi Val,
I am sure you have this, but it might be a starting point.
6 June 1869, Hoxton St John
Charles Henry Petherwick, minor, machinist, 95 Chapel Street. Father Edward William Paterwick, machinist.
Elizabeth Tipson,minor
Re: the 1861. I haven't been able to find quite a few of mine , and they are in the same area - Hackney, Bethnal Green etc. A lot of those pages are missing.

Val, as bcbrit mentioned a lot of the 1861 census is missing, here's a link to a list of them.

Just noticed that the head of household where baby Hannah is was born in Plymouth. Surely that is a bit more than just coincidence?Co-ordinator for PoW project Southern Region 08

Val,
Have you tried looking for Edward William and Mary J Petherwick under their initals in the 1901 census ?
I found my gg grandfather that way - he was in an asylum in Epsom, although he was from the St Pancras area. St Pancras sent their mentally infirm to Epsom or Watford.
I wonder if this could be the case ? I notice Edward William died in 1904, and his wife wife Mary J died in 1914.
Also what about the workhouse ?
