I read it as if Ellen and John are the children of a first marriage of John the elder and his marriage to Emma is a second marriage and there has been one child of that union which has
subsequently died.Whoever said Seek and Ye shall find was not a genealogist.

That's how I read it as well, one child which has died in the present marriage. The 2 children on the census are from his previous marriage.Co-ordinator for PoW project Southern Region 08

thanks both Emma seems to have moved in before Louisa died, I was trying to work out when Louisa died as on John Williams Bap in 1901 it says parents John and Emma Knight ? and as he is still alive in 1911 and they say one child born and one died he cannot be Emmas then ?

Is this them in 1901?

If so they were calling themselves married before they actually did.
From the 1901 and 1911 census, John was born 1899, or do you have an actual birth date?
As he wasn't baptised until 1901, could Louisa have died between John's birth and baptism (maybe died in child birth) and when it came to his baptism Emma was put down as the mother. There could still be a subsequent child of John and Emma that died.Co-ordinator for PoW project Southern Region 08

Just throwing something into the mix. I'm wondering whether Ellen is the child of Emma with a previous marriage and John is the child of John and Emma.
I'm not seeing that marriage of John to Emma 1903. Can see one but cant see ages fit.
Anyhow your looking for Louisa's death. The only one I can see is a Lambeth one for 1896.

I hadn't seen the actual Cert, so thanks for that I'm completely baffled now, one of the witnesses is Isabella Ann Petherwick she is Johns married sister , John also married a Petherwick before he married Emma ,I know its the right John and his Father ? also Emma is with her Mother in 1891 and singleLast edited by Guest; 12-02-14, 19:57.

Reckon he did. They were obviously all so giddy at the time they didn't notice their ages. I don't remember taking much notice of mine if I can remember that far back.
I don't know how I got that thumbs up. I was experimenting at holding the post to add a record
