  • 1841 help please ...

John Doore / Dore / Door, born 1811-15 Leicestershire
Occupation: stocking maker / framework knitter
    - 1851 he's married to Mary and living 14 Denman St., Leicester + children George (b1843) and Sarah Ann
(b1845). His surname is listed as Door in 1851.

Can anyone please find him in 1841?

I've just found a possible marriage; John Door to Mary Ann King Q2 1842 although not validated it yet. According to the 1851 census Mary was born in Northamptonshire which doesn't really help if they married in 1842!

Thanks for any help you are able to give.

There are a number of trees on Ancestry which show the 1842 marriage to be between John Door and Eliza Calcraft - so you may be able to discount that one!

Worth considering this as a baptism for John

Excellent finds ... thanks Jackie and Elaine

One of the witnesses to John's 2nd marriage in 1859 was Jonathan Door, I wondered if he was John's brother ... looks like the same parents.

The other witness was Anne Doore (Jonathan's wife or maybe their sister?)

ps According to 1859 marriage info John was a widower aged 48 = born 1811.

Hi Val - I've just found a death in Leic Q1 1841 for George Doore, if its the right one he died prior to 1841 census.

... his father's name was George, he was a FWK too
I was hoping that George was still alive when son John married the second time in 1859 as it doesn't mention that George was deceased.

just wanted to say ancestry had transcribed my dove family as 'dore' and 'door' on many census. maybe check for dove in case they were mistranscribed?

Hi again Val ... George, Mary and John are certainly giving us the runaround. I looked at the Leire family, but not sure its them!
