    I think this is one for the reference library, I have checked under trades and occupations and I can't see it listed. I have 2 people that I found whose occupations were listed as Moss Gatherers. There is a full description of why and what is was used for on this website:

      Bit early on for the Rolling Stones! The phrase a" rolling stone gathers no moss" must be because the moss is saturated so of course anything that wet wouldn't stick!

        One use for moss was as caulking between the planks of boats, instead of (or as well as) oakum (unravelled rope).
