Richard in 1901? (married, occupation butler):

      Estimated Birth Year: abt 1864
      Relation to Head: Servant
      Gender: Male
      Birth Place: Canterbury, Kent, England
      Civil Parish: Kensington

Yes that's almost certainly the right Selina marrying Joseph Foulger in 1929, as they are on the 1935 electoral roll with a son called Joseph Henry DRACOTT Foulger (her maiden name). Also there is this birth on FreeBMD:

        Births Mar 1905
        Foulger Joseph Henry D Fulham 1a 219

... so it seems that Selina was separated from Richard by then, and she had Joseph Foulger junior out of wedlock, not marrying her new husband until Richard had died.

This would appear to be Selina in 1911, with son Joseph Foulger (though she is going by the name "Leila Rachel Knight", and claiming to be a widow):

        Name: Leila Rachacl Knight
        Age in 1911: 40
        Estimated Birth Year: abt 1871
        Relation to Head: Head
        Gender: Female
        Birth Place: London, United Kingdom
        Civil Parish: Hammersmith
        County/Island: London
        Country: England
Street Address: 29 Iffley Road, Hammersmith
        Marital Status: Widowed
        Occupation: DRESSMAKER
        Registration District: Fulham
        Registration District Number: 3
        Sub-registration District: South Hammersmith
        ED, institution, or vessel: 14
        Piece: 240
        Household Members:
        Leila Rachacl Knight 40
        Joseph Henry Foulger 6
        Franz Ott 24

Thanks so much Richard really good of you, no wonder I couldn't find him him he never had a middle name and wonder why he said born in Canterbury? I did look for him using just his first name and probably dismissed that one.
Wonder why they split ? wouldn't be surprised to find him in the criminal records ?
Thanks again off to have a look.

OK I see what you mean. I think that's still his death though in 1926, and that is definitely Selina in 1911 as she is at the same address on the electoral rolls after 1929 when she was married to Joseph Foulger. Therefore I would guess that she had separated from Richard at least by 1905, so he may well be living with a different "wife" in the later censuses! Can't see anything obvious though. Where was he born? I found him in 1881 (I think) with birthplace being "Walworth Rd Surrey" - however the only likely birth reg I can find is in Bermondsey in 1864. I would have thought Walworth Rd would have come under Newington district though?

Hi Richard thanks for your help, yes that is him in 1881 ,he was born in Bermondsey, and I agree with you over the other marriage for Selina and her death, also her new husbands details.
I still cannot find her in the 1901 census or him after the marriage in 1890 other than that death.you could be right about another marriage thanks .

                      Val

Took a look at this last night but got nowhere with them. Did note that Richard was a butler on the mc and that his address prior to marriage was the Siamese Legation in Ashburn Place, Kensington. Think that's the same as an embassy. If he was still there at the time of the 1891 census, it is recorded that the Registrar was informed that 'no form had been collected from that address'. Wonder if he maybe travelled for a while or remained with the Embassy who did not return a census form in 1901 1911 either.

Thats a thought thanks Vera, I was hoping to find all I could about him as I actually had him attached to the wrong wife for ages but did not feel comfortable with it so started going through all the Richard Knights born about the right time, glad I did now.
