At https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/F1MB-3J4 Does this read as though the registration took place 4 years before the event. Surely this can't be a transcription error or am I not reading the entry correctly.

I don't know anything about Irish civil records, other than that some people were reluctant to comply with civil registration. So maybe the birth was registered in 1924 but actually took place in 1920?

Otherwise, then it's a transcription error, either the year of birth or the year of registration!

on Ancestry the birth was registered in Mar quarter 1920

Its saying the other way round, birth took place 1924 and was registered in 1920, unless of course the registrar entered the details in the wrong boxes

I just looked on rootsireland, but can't find it indexed there. FMP also has the the civil reg for that era, I think

Presumably possibly the same family, but apparently entered the opposite way round

You could always have a chat with a Familysearch advisor and ask them why or send to the Familysearch in USA for photocopies of the records all free
