  • Was Elizabeth married before?

I am unable to find a marriage between Christopher Sykes bap 1826 Chapel Allerton, Leeds and Elizabeth b c 1834 Leeds.

    On 1861 census RG 9; Piece: 3399; Folio: 115; Page: 22
    Christopher Sykes 35
    Elizabeth Sykes 28
    Sarah E Sykes 1
Thomas Bradley 16 Brother in Law b Leeds.

I assumed this would be Elizabeth's brother but cannot find a Sykes/Bradley marriage.
Can anyone find a marriage for Christopher or another previous marriage for Elizabeth?

    Thank you
    Kat

Silly me , not noticed he was married in 1851 census. Been looking for marriages closer to his first child's birth in 1860

This could be him with first and maybe only wife

                  Married 06/07/1848 Leeds St Peter

Christopher Sykes full age widower shopkeeper f Barnard, servant
Louisa Hobson full age spinster f John, Mason
                  living Woodhouse Street

Witnesses George Smith and Edwin Moore

That Louisa is in all the census following as a married women with a child Walter Chapman Sykes and later a child Louisa. She continues to live with her parents and later with a lodger.

now, he states he is a WIDOWER on that marriage, so do we need yet another marriage and death for wife no 1?

West Yorkshire, England, Births and Baptisms, 1813-1910

                                  Name: Walter Chapman Sykes
                                  Birth Date: 27 Apr 1859
                                  Parish: Leeds, St Peter
                                  Baptism Date: 15 May 1859
                                  Father's Name: Sykes
                                  Mother's Name: Louisa

it doesn't ask for fathers name.. just 'parents' and it says Louisa and then Sykes in the surname bit.... but it states that she is a SPINSTER.. poor soul died at the age of 28 too.. :(

My you have been busy. ..and what another naughty boy I seem to have in this family!!
                                      So 2nd Marriage:
                                      Married 06/07/1848 Leeds St Peter
Christopher Sykes full age widower shopkeeper f Barnard, servant
Louisa Hobson full age spinster f John, Mason
                                      living Woodhouse Street
So he would have been age 22

Maybe didn't marry Elizabeth then. Poor Louisa.
The 1844 marriage -is a possibilty - he would have been 18 - . My Elizabeth would only be 10 so not her.
Need a death for that Eliza Sykes - if it is her.
                                      Kat
