  • Unusual Christian name.

    In the 1860s a bride's father is clearly written as; Handable, surname Allen. Has anyone come across this name before?...it's so unusual that I wondered if it was meant to be Hannibal.

        As you have it on two certificates, surely it must be correct, unless the same person wrote both certificates and made the same mistake twice!

          Yes, I am sure that "Handable" was his name but I am equally sure his parents really intended to call him Hannibal, just didn't know how to spell it, or more likely, couldn't say it properly!
